On Saturday March 21, we joined together with Vigilante Costero Maule Itata, Save the Waves, Waterkeeper, y Fiscalía del Medio Ambiente, FIMA as well as numerous other organizations across Chile to clean the beaches in our area. This was the fourth year of the campaign Fuerza Chile Unidos por Aguas Limpias (Chile Strong United for Clean Waters). This year there were 30 locations of cleaning along the Chilean coast. The Valpo Surf Project divided and conquered and sent one team to Playa Portales in Valparaíso, and another team to La Boca in Con Con. The majority of waste collected was plastic materials and cigarette butts, along with waste from fishing practices. Thanks to everyone who came and helped out, we collected 125 pounds of trash from Playa Portales alone and two tons in total across all locations in Chile. Check out a photo summary of the day below!
