The past month in English classes we have been focused on tourism. We first focused on tourism right here in Valparaíso, considering it is a city that receives a large amount of tourists each year. Vocabulary such as port, hills, cruise ship, restaurant, store, were some of the things we taught our students in combination with grammar structures that could allow them to strike up a conversation with a tourist. Useful phrases such as “Where are you from?”, “How long is your visit?” and “Welcome to Valparaíso”. In games that we played in class such as hot seat, “matamoscas” aka fly swatter, our students practiced putting together the vocab with the grammar structures in an interactive way.
Next month we are focusing on Travel, where our students will be able to learn useful phrases for getting around a city. Things such as asking for directions, and city vocab such a street corner, stoplight and neighborhood.
